What is Radiative Cooling?

Radiative cooling leverages the fundamental principles of thermodynamics and electromagnetic radiation to passively dissipate heat from surfaces. It involves the emission of thermal infrared radiation within the atmospheric transparency window (8-13 µm), where Earth’s atmosphere is nearly transparent to outgoing radiation.

Advanced radiative cooling materials are engineered with selective emissivity to maximize thermal emission in this spectral range while minimizing solar absorption. This enables surfaces to achieve sub-ambient cooling by effectively radiating heat into the cold sink of outer space, even under direct sunlight.

By integrating these materials in building facades, roofs, or other cooling applications, significant reductions in cooling demand can be achieved without any electrical input, aligning with sustainable and energy-efficient design goals.

How Our Coating Works

Our coating is engineered with advanced nanomaterials and polymers that selectively emit thermal radiation in the atmospheric transparency window, allowing heat to escape directly into space. At the same time, it reflects sunlight to minimize heat gain. This dual action keeps surfaces cooler than the surrounding air without using any energy, making it an effective, passive cooling solution.

To improve it's use in various applications we are striving to make our coatings as transparent as possible to allow users to enjoy the benefits of passive cooling without compromising on aesthetics, as with existing opaque solutions.
